STEP 1: Apply for a Renewal of Competency Certificate

This is done at your nearest SAPS. The requirements are:

1. A copy of your proficiency certificate as provided by us;

2. Completion of SAPS 517(g) application form;

3. x2 written testimonials of spouse/partner/family, for background check purposes;

4. Fingerprints;

5. x2 color passport photos (this will be provided in house);

6. x2 copies of your ID;

7. Proof of residence;

8. Payment is required at SAPS.

STEP 2: Application for Renewal of Firearm Licence(s)

This is done at your nearest SAPS. The requirements are:

1. Copy of your competency certificate as renewed through Step 1;

2. The detailed motivation that the firearm is still being utilized for the same purpose as initially applied/motivated for. Completion of SAPS 518(a) application form;

3. Fingerprints;

4. x2 color passport photos (this will be provided in house);

5. x2 copies of your ID;

6. Proof of residence;

7. Safe declaration with photos;

8. Payment is required at SAPS.

Valkyrie Firearm Training assists with the application processes in Steps 1 and 2 at a minimal fee.

To apply for a new license or a renewal of a firearm license, proper motivation is required. As an Accredited Firearm Training Provider that has worked with the Firearms Control Act for many years, we can assist the public with the correct format and wording to explain and to provide for your personal motivation. We also assist in completing 271A, 517, and any other SAPS Application forms.
